Optimizing Images for Faster Load Times
Images are often the #1 reason a site loads slowly. Optimizing your images reduces file size without hurting quality — improving speed, SEO, and user experience across the board.

1. Use the Right File Format
- JPG: Best for photos and complex visuals
- PNG: Best for logos or images with transparency
- WEBP: Modern format with excellent compression (recommended if supported by your theme/plugin)
2. Resize Before Uploading
Never upload a 4000x3000 image if it only displays at 800x600. Resize images to their display size before uploading. Tools like Photoshop, Canva, or TinyPNG can help.
3. Use a Compression Plugin
We recommend one of the following WordPress plugins to compress images automatically:
- ShortPixel
- Imagify
- Smush
These plugins optimize images as you upload and can also bulk-optimize existing ones.

4. Enable Lazy Loading
Lazy loading means your images only load when they become visible on screen. This dramatically speeds up initial page load time.
Most caching or performance plugins include lazy loading options, or you can enable it with a plugin like a3 Lazy Load.
